Our ‘continuous provision’ plan outlines what we provide for children every day. The indoor and outdoor space is prepared so that as much learning as possible will take place. We make sure that the range of resources available enables independent exploration and opportunities for discovery. This forms the strong base of our practice at The Little Owl Pre-School, underpinning our focus activities which are facilitated by staff.
The continuous provision plan also outlines our daily routines and sets out the learning opportunities that we provide at those times. Our routine provides structure and a sense of security for children, while the daily practice of key skills such as counting or identifying sounds in language enables children to consolidate and build on their knowledge and understanding.

The learning opportunities we have identified for each area/activity are taken from the Early Years Foundation Stage guidance ‘Development Matters’ (2014). Each area or activity may provide learning opportunities across more than one area of development. The areas of development according to Development Matters are: Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED), Communication and Language (C&L), Physical Development (PD), Literacy (L), Mathematics (M), Understanding the World (UW) and Expressive Arts and Design (EA&D).
As children take part in our routine activities, and interact with the environment we prepare for them, they have the opportunity to learn an infinite number of things, whether they are 2, 3 or 4 years old! The role of staff throughout is to facilitate and share children’s explorations and discoveries, to nurture and deepen their understanding and to record and celebrate their achievements.
